A First Class Moment

When I traveled to London with a friend that worked for the airport, my friend was able to upgrade our coach seats to a business first class seat. He told me that he was going to do this and asked me to prepare for the upgrade. I wasn’t sure how to prepare but he told me to make sure I wear dressed up clothing. This was so unique because I never dressed up to fly on a plane. In the past it has always been dress comfortably because you will have to do excessive walking and sit really close to strangers.

When we arrived at the airport, nothing was different, and we did what we normally do which is to check in and get through security. We got to our seats in the coach section. As we sat in the coach section waiting, I was wondering why I was so dressed up to sit in coach. Everyone in coach dresses comfortably and my attire did not fit in with the environment. After a few minutes, we were escorted from coach and in to first class section. The stewardess escorted us to our seats, and she closed the curtains, so the coach was separated from first class. In first class, I was provided with my own airline steward for my row, and we sat in lazy boy chairs that reclined back with personal televisions attached to the arm. I was given a first-class gift that consist of socks and items that I could place over my eyes for sleeping. When I ringed the bell at my seat for assistance, my stewardess knew my name and addressed me personally. It was an awesome experience and I finally understood why I had to dress up! It was a classy ride in which I was provided hot towels to wash my hands before dinner was prepared. And my dinner was served on dishes not disposable packages with no plates!! I had silverware and the dinner was like a fine cuisine from an expensive restaurant.

The entire time I thought I was driving as I watched my personal TV that had movies, music, and a map that showed where we were located over the Atlantic Ocean! I felt like it was a dream and I hated to admit I felt like a foreigner in a strange place. I kept asking my best friend if he felt odd. There as a small curtain that separated us from coach, and I was always wondering if the people in coach knew what was going on in first class. I felt like going back to coach in order to tell them what was happening. Then, I felt sad because there was an economic divide that was separated by a curtain. Then I started to feel guilty for being in first class. I was in first class with a coach mentality. I always knew there was more on the other side when I sat in coach. But I wasn’t exposed to the potential and possibility and never felt I deserved to cross over the threshold of coach to first class.

Then I started to realize that a lot of people stay in a coach mentality. A lot of times we know there is more on the other side, and we don’t take chances or cease opportunities to cross the threshold of the curtain. The threshold of the curtain can be a dream, goal and anything

that is different from the norm.

I will encourage everyone to step out beyond the coach mentality and reach beyond the curtains of first class. Everyone deserves a first-class moment. If you can’t get the first class today, then plan to always strive for more. Be more, do more and create a discipline life that will allow you to accomplish your dreams. Build your first-class moments and live in it enjoying every moment one second, minute, hour at a time. You deserve it and pass it on to the younger generations. Let them know that there are promises and dreams on the other side that is beyond their reach. Remove the challenges and obstacles of the curtains and unveil endless possibilities.
